Haute école de santé Vaud (HESAV)
The Haute Ecole de Santé Vaud (HESAV) is the largest health sciences university in French-speaking Switzerland. It offers four Bachelor’s degree courses: Nursing; Physiotherapy; Medical Radiology Technology, and Midwifery. It also offers Master’s degree programmes in these fields. The HESAV is the result of the merging of the cantonal schools of nursing (1932) and midwifery (1803) in Chantepierre, of physiotherapy (1936) and of medical radiology technicians (1987). Their history and reputation are testament to the HESAV’s longstanding experience in training health professionals. Today, the HESAV is a university integrated into the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Western Switzerland (Haute école spécialisée de Suisse occidental, HES-SO). Since 2002, it has new missions in research, postgraduate education, and international relations. Located in the heart of the hospital complex, the HESAV collaborates with the CHUV, the Faculty of Biology and Medicine (FBM) and the University Institute for Training and Research in Healthcare (Institute universitaire de formation et de recherche en soins, IUFRS), both attached to the UNIL, thus benefitting from the contribution of renowned professionals, doctors, and researchers.
In addition, associated as it is with the practice, research, and education communities, the HESAV is developing numerous projects to meet the health needs of the population. It is recognised in Switzerland and abroad for its expertise and has a rich network of partnerships with health sciences faculties and university hospitals on all five continents.
